Letter from W.M.W. 1848 May 28.

Possibly a member of the 2nd Kentucky Infantry Regiment, W.M.W. describes the Battle of Buena Vista, including the deaths of Henry Clay, Jr. and Wm. R. McKee; recalls helping to carry McKee from the battlefield and McKee's last words and discusses his participation in battles at Palo Alto, Monterrey and Matamoros. W.M.W. also discusses two land warrants and notes that one is to be given to his son; expresses a desire for a reconciliation with his estranged wife and instructs her to enter the land warrant for their son at a place of her choosing. He also notes a desire to travel to the West Indies after the war to make money. If he returns home [to Kentucky?] he plans to kill the person who caused him to leave home. Letter is accompanied by two prints depicting Mexico City. [Date of letter is likely in error because the 2nd Kentucky Infantry Regiment was mustered out in June 1847.].
